This building was one of the first dwelling building in Soviet Armenia, constructed by architect N. Buniatyants in 1925-1927. In 1926, according to architect Al. Tamanyan's suggestion, one of rooms of this house has been given to Al. Spendiaryan. Now the building is included in Yerevan Art and Historical monuments' state catalogue, as a monument of governmental importance.
Museum's collection consists of 1317 items, great part of which is M. Spendiarova's endowment. The collection contains composer’s personal belongings, documents, notes, manuscripts and photos. Letters and documents inform us about Spendaryan's life and activity, display his relations with such outstanding cultural figures as Russian composers Nickolai Rimski-Korsakov (Spendaryan’s teacher), Arensky, Glazunov, Kyui, and poets Gorky, Chekhov, and Tolstoy, also Armenian poets Toumanyan and Tsaturyan, composers Tigranyan and Melikyan, architector Tamanyan, painter Saryan, V. Surenyants and others.
The museum realizes cultural, scientific, educational activities. Great attention is paid to different concerts, presentations, lectures and traditional events, such as "Musical evening of Romance", "Inauguration of young spendiarians", "A day in Spendiaryan's memorial museum" and others. This gatherings aim to build up children's taste and relate them to the Museum. |
